“I like to see when students make the connection of learning about an automotive system and how to service it and then applying it hands-on while working on a vehicle in the shop.”

"I wanted to take the automotive courses because it aligned well with my career path and having to be familiar with using certain tools. Being in this program has taught me more than I thought it would and has made working on my vehicle and my friends vehicles easier. My favorite thing about these courses is being able to bring in your own car if you need work done and learn how to diagnose and fix it yourself."

"I wanted to get a better understanding of what I would be doing if chose to become a mechanic. This program has affected me tremendously by helping my finalize my career choice and because of that I am going to college to become an Agriculture technician for John Deere. My favorite part of these courses is getting a hands on learning experience and being able to do more rather than just sit at a desk all day."

"Computer Science is incredible because it incorporates all the subjects and everything the students are being taught all over the building. It gives them a chance to put it all together in amazingly creative ways."

“When I began my freshman year of high school, I had no idea what classes to take. I’ve always been interested in technology, especially gaming, so I figured I could try it and see how it goes. Growing up, I thought that I might enjoy being a computer programmer, but taking the computer science courses made me realize I don’t enjoy coding. I much prefer learning about the physical aspects of technology and cybersecurity, which is something that I was able to further explore my interest in throughout the courses."
 

"I wanted to pursue the Cybersecurity curriculum at HCHS because of my lifelong interest in computers. Securing networks is a core part of computing that is evolving quickly, and I want to contribute in the effort of securing the future. This program has impacted me by revealing many misconceptions about the computing world, and that only a small percentage of people are truly secure in our increasingly digital world."

“I wanted to take the Criminal Justice CTE Pathway because it would give me the education I needed to pursue one of the careers I was looking at. It was an opportunity for me to get a glimpse into what it means to have a job involving criminal justice, like being a lawyer. This program has not only educated me about the importance of the criminal justice system, but my own rights and abilities. I have learned many things that will assist me on my way to college, not only in the criminal justice field, but other fields as well if I choose to follow those paths. My favorite thing about the CTE courses is gaining the opportunity to get a glimpse into the responsibilities of the job the course involves. My favorite thing specifically about the criminal justice course is the fact that we get to discuss real life situations from the perspective of law enforcement and corrections officers.”

“Corrections and cultural awareness, as well as Law Enforcement Fundamentals and Intro to Criminal Justice have allowed me to deepen my understanding and appreciation and awareness for all public servants of the law, including the unseen and unknown sacrifices they make each and every day. These CTE classes have also provided a safe and encouraging environment to talk through, study, and analyze current events and problems within the enforcement world throughout.”

"My favorite thing about teaching Culinary and Hospitality is seeing students grow and feel proud in a nontraditional learning environment that’s supported by our community. Through cooking, nutrition, and the science behind food, students learn to make mistakes, work with and for others, and build teamwork and life skills that prepare them for the future."

“I wanted to take the Culinary Course at HCHS because I enjoy baking and cooking at home. This program has significantly impacted my education, as I have learned a great deal about cooking that will benefit me in the future. My favorite thing about taking these courses is when we bake. I truly love baking in class. I also enjoy learning unusual facts about the unit we are studying.”

“I wanted to take culinary freshman year because of the opportunity to get my cooking skills up and to be able to eat meals during class. This program has given me extensive culinary knowledge and the ability to now go ahead and cook whatever I may need. My favorite part about this course is the group-based cooking competitions.”

"Honestly, it was luck when I ended up in this course! I changed my schedule and ended up in the Digital Design class, but I ended up loving it! It was a lot of fun to try something completely new, and even now I feel especially accomplished when I do well in this class. I’ve learned to be creative and to try new things because of what we do in class. This course has been one of my favorites since last year. I’ve loved using Photoshop and Illustrator to design and create new things and concepts. It’s a great class to have when I want to chill out from all the hard schoolwork, and instead completely focus on something more creative!"

"I wanted to take the Digital Design courses because I wanted to expand my knowledge with computer software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. I also wanted to take these courses because I was intrigued with it being a different type of class which broke the standards of what a day would look like in an alternate class. This program has impacted me by making me feel more expressive in my work. This course allows you to be creative and draw in many aspects of your own life into every assignment you complete, something that I especially enjoy being able to do. My favorite thing about taking these courses is the freedom that it allows and the helpful knowledge that it teaches. Once again, having the freedom to draw in experiences/interests from your own life allows the work to be more personal, and therefore allows you to take more pride in the work you have completed. As well as that, it has given me the knowledge to create things in Illustrator on my own, or touch up photos on my own in Photoshop, both of which I have done in the past."

"I LOVE that I get to take my past experiences in working with young children and teach the high schoolers everything I know to help make them more aware of how to take care of and educate children. Getting to spend time with the "Bigs & Littles" is the best part of my days! Seeing some of my "Bigs" go on to college to become teachers has also been extremely rewarding!"

"The Early Education Pathway has given me the confidence to skip courses because I already had the required credits and knowledge. This background has given me a solid foundation and head start on most of my other colleagues. I am able to answer professors' questions confidently, especially when asked about certain theorists, as their contributions to education have been engraved in my brain. I also loved having the opportunity to observe different teaching styles in action while spending time at Lincoln and Jane Ball. This course exposed me to multiple age levels, which helped me gain a clearer understanding of the age group I would like to teach in the future."

“I completed all three years of the Early Childhood course in high school, and I can confidently say that I would not be where I am today without it. In the early years of high school, I was debating if I wanted to be a nurse or a teacher. So, I signed up for both Principles of Healthcare and Early Childhood. I loved both courses, but I grew very attached to Early Childhood. Having the opportunity to plan “PreK Fun Day,” was a highlight of my first year. My second year is what finalized the decision that I wanted to become a teacher. I found lesson planning very interesting, and I got to learn about many different ideas from theorists and even classmates. The final year of Early Childhood was by far my favorite. Getting to travel to Jane Ball weekly to help out in classrooms was an incredible experience that not many other schools can offer. It gave us a hands-on way of what being a teacher actually can look like. The STEM days at Jane Ball and Red Cedars were also very immersive and fun! Spending full days in the classroom with amazing mentor teachers was a priceless learning experience. I also loved getting to take care of the RealCare babies. They showed me how to care for an infant, as I have had very little experience with this outside of class. Getting to go into the preschool helped me secure a job in a preschool today, because I can utilize the skills I learned on a daily basis as an assistant teacher. Mrs. Walz made this class the fun and helpful course that it is today, and she was definitely one of the best parts about the class as well. Of course this class could not be what it is without Dr. Mary Tracy-MacAulay. In my opinion, this class is one of the best CTE courses Hanover offers. This class, among other CTE courses, allows future educators to get their start and finalize a decision before going into college unsure of their major. I am so grateful that I got to take this course, because I would have struggled greatly with choosing a major without it. Thank you for inspiring myself as well as many other students to be the best future teachers we can be!”

“I took the EMS courses because I felt like I didn't know where I was going to go career wise and heard good things about the class. Mr. Viehman is one of the best teachers I've ever had and I hope he stays teaching here forever. It has impacted me to want more out of myself and drive to reach certain goals within the medical field. Mr. Viehman is a great teacher but also very funny so he makes learning fun. I love learning life lessons that could help me later on down the road.”

“I love the hands-on learning that PLTW Engineering courses provide. Hanover students come to my class with a strong background in STEM skills due to their education at Lincoln, Jane Ball, Red Cedars, and Hanover Central Middle School. I want students to become innovators and problem solvers in my classroom.”
 

"I took the Engineering pathway at HCHS because I wanted to get into the engineering field, and I thought that these classes and courses would help me get a feel of what it is like to be an engineer. It's also great to know how certain buildings and structures work. This program has impacted me by getting a deeper understanding of architecture, teamwork, and overcoming adversity. I have learned so much from both Mrs Albrecht and Mr Smith on how to solve these subjects. My favorite thing about taking the Engineering courses is that you get to do a lot of hands-on work. We are always building or creating something like my Ranch styled house, Vex, 3D printing, and more."

"I took the Engineering pathway at HCHS because I want to be an engineer after I graduate high school and college, and I thought that these courses would give me a real feel of what the engineering world and environment is! I thought it would help me develop the basic skills of an engineer before I started my career.
This program has impacted me by strengthening vital skills for an engineer, such as problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience. I have been more confident in the learning process and breaking down complex problems into smaller steps.
My favorite thing about taking the Engineering courses is all of the hands-on work. We have made cars with different energy sources, constructed different house styles with nearby materials, and have used VEX equipment paired with simple machines. I love being able to challenge myself to solve practical problems."

"My favorite thing about teaching entrepreneurship is watching students realize that they don’t need to wait for permission, resources, or a “perfect” idea to create value.  I love helping them learn to identify real problems, recognize what’s missing in the world, and then design solutions that matter.  Ultimately, showing students to see problems as opportunities; this skill is priceless!  Seeing students build confidence, think creatively, and understand that these skills can shape their future, whether they become entrepreneurs or not, is incredibly rewarding."

“I wanted to take entrepreneurship because my dad is an entrepreneur and he is very successful. I thought this class would give me good attributes that I could take through life. This program has impacted me by teaching me about myself. I have learned my techniques and tactics that work for me. I have also become more confident in myself, especially with public speaking. My favorite part about entrepreneurship is watching a product I believe in come to life. I get to solve a problem and watch my solution grow.”

"I first decided to take the Entrepreneurship classes because they didn't have anything like it at my old school, and I also knew that it could teach me valuable skills. Being an entrepreneur requires drive, passion, creativity, etc., and these classes have helped me find what I, myself, am passionate about, as well as things I need to work on in general. This class has impacted me in many ways, but getting better at public speaking was something I didn't expect to get better at when going into it. However, as the frontman of a band, I can say that this has helped me severely. Knowing exactly what my goals are and being more organized with them are also things that I will take from this class. Picking just one thing is hard since I seriously think that this is one of the best classes someone could take, and has some of the best opportunities a class can offer. However, I honestly would say that the memories I have from this class are some of the best ones I've made in school. From the field trips to the guest speakers, there have been so many times this class has been something to look forward to, and I am very thankful for the opportunity to take this class."

“What I love most about teaching exercise science is that it is both practical now and in the future. Students who end up pursuing careers in health, fitness, and sports medicine will have the foundational knowledge to succeed in their fields of study. It is practical now because almost all of my students are student-athletes and they can use the concepts we learn right now to train smarter, prevent injuries, and take better care of their bodies.”

“I wanted to take the Kinesiology course because it seemed very interesting, and I knew it would help with the development of my career selection. Being in this program impacted me in many ways. I’ve learned so much from this program and love everything we do in the class. My favorite thing about being in this course is learning new things and being able to do fun activities that teach you things in life.”

“I wanted to take the Kinesiology courses at HCHS because I plan on pursuing an exercise science degree after graduation. The courses will thoroughly prepare me for any introductory classes I decide to take in college, whether that be an athletic trainer, physical therapist, or sports medicine doctor. So far, this program has made me excited to learn more in the upcoming classes of the pathway, and reassured that exercise science is the right choice for my future. I also feel that this class has helped me further my resume for college applications. My favorite part of this class is the hands-on component. As the lessons continue we get to utilize Hanover’s strength room and field house to do research, and professionals from around the area come in to speak to us on exercise science. I also love Mr. Momcilovic’s excitement and personal interest when teaching, and his willingness to learn with us. I am thrilled to see what the next classes in the pathway will bring."

I teach LinkedIn and have gotten my students multiple jobs through resume building and LinkedIn page building, so seeing them excited about a career start is more than enough for me.”
 

“I took the Marketing courses at HCHS because my grandpa, uncle, and dad all told me that it would be good for me to take and it interested me the most because that is the career they do. Being in the program has impacted me tremendously and it has helped me get ready for what I am majoring in for college. I have grown and learned more about marketing and how it is used in businesses to succeed. My favorite thing about taking these courses was the teachers. They have all helped me out so much and I have bet set up amazingly for college and any future job that I choose. One of the best things that I learned was LinkedIn from Mr. Schassburger and how to manage it and it has helped me out with jobs and college very much.”

“I chose to take the Marketing course at HCHS because I have a strong interest in marketing, and I plan to minor in marketing in college at Indiana University, Indianapolis. Taking digital marketing prepares me for my future by helping me develop a positive and professional digital footprint. Through this program, Mr. Schassburger has taught us valuable marketing skills and a deeper understanding of the field. My favorite aspect of this class is the interactive assignments, which help me fully grasp the content we are learning. I also enjoy Linkin Fridays because they help me build a professional media presence and connect with a wide network of individuals.”

“My favorite part of teaching the CNA class is the privilege of watching my students realize exactly what they are capable of. There is a special kind of magic in seeing them step into a clinical setting, wearing their scrubs with pride, and putting years of high school lessons into real-world practice. Being a small part of their journey into healthcare is a gift, and I am so proud to watch them grow into the compassionate caregivers our community needs.”

“I wanted to take the pre nursing course at HCHS due to my mother being a nurse, I was inspired to be a nurse like her and to eventually become a nurse anesthetist. This program has impacted me because it has shaped a path towards my career and has given me the knowledge within the field. The pre-nursing course at HCHS has been my favorite course I have taken within my high school career because I love being within a medical setting, and I love learning about taking care of the body and people themselves. Taking care of people has been the most impactful part of highschool for me and I can't wait to continue doing so later in my career.”

“I wanted to take the pre-nursing courses because I hope to pursue a degree in nursing and one day become a pediatric nurse. I think that this program has impacted me in such a positive way. I have been able to find my passions and help others through the process. I have also met and gotten closer with a lot of pretty great people. I am extremely fortunate to have Mrs. Davlantis as a teacher because she has been such a great leader for us and mentor. My favorite thing about these courses is being able to help others because that is all I really want to do in life is help others who are less fortunate than I am.”
