Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes

To fulfill a CTE concentrator for Box 3 for Graduation Pathways, a student must earn a C average or higher in at least three courses (6 total credits) within a Next Level Programs of Study (NLPS) Career Pathway.

These three courses must include the Principles course, CTE Concentrator A course, and CTE Concentrator B course.

Employability Skills

All Hanover schools will be committed and focused on EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS. These skills will prepare students in grades K-12 for employment, enlistment, or enrollment in higher education.

Each month there will be a focus on 2 to 3 employability skills. You will notice banners and posters in all of our buildings. These skills include: Work ethic - which comprises seven skills: Professionalism, Time Management / Organization, Perseverance, Self-Discipline, Adaptability, Independence, and Integrity. HCSC will also focus on Communication and Collaboration.

Response to Instruction (RTI)

Response to Instruction (RTI) is a multi-step process in which students are provided research-based instruction. Students who are struggling in a particular area may be provided with instructions designed to meet their academic and/or behavioral needs while students who excel in a particular area may be provided additional learning opportunities. Research-based interventions are strategies shown to be effective through research that are used to address specific skill deficits and enhance student learning. Students’ progress is monitored throughout the process in order to determine whether additional or different instructions are needed. RTI typically involves a three-tiered model with increasingly intense interventions.

Weighted Grade Policy

The Hanover Community School Corporation Board of Trustees unanimously voted on June 3, 2014 to adopt a weighted grade policy for all honors, dual credit (Purdue University Northwest), and Advanced Placement courses offered at Hanover Central High School. The NEW GRADE WEIGHTED POLICY began for all students in the Class of 2017 and will be added to each freshman class thereafter.

Course weighting:

Advanced Placement - 1.0 additional point.
Purdue University Northwest Dual Credit Courses - 1.0 additional point.
Honors Courses- 0.5 additional point.

No course will receive a weight over 1.0 additional point..

For Honors Courses Only: A grade of 'C' or better will warrant the grade weight. A grade of 'D' or below will not receive an additional weight.

If a student transfers from a weighted course to a non-weighed course, the grade will be calculated according to the student's enrollment at the end of the semester.

Transfer students who are enrolled in similar courses at their original school may receive a weighted grade according to the discretion of the guidance counselor and/or principal.
